From The Hindu, March 4, 1925: America’s fabulous national wealth

An Index to the enormous national wealth of the United States is provided by the latest financial statistics, covering the year 1922, published by the American Government. The figures form the basis of a full-page article in the “New York Times”, which triumphantly alludes to modern America as “the Nabob of the nations.” Official estimates show that the national wealth of the United States increased, in millions of dollars, from 186,299 in the year 1912 to the fabulous total of 3,20,803 in 1922. According to comparitive figures complied by American bankers, the national wealth of Great Britain in the same year represented only 88,810 millions of dollars, and that of France 67,710, Germany the fourth nation on the list, is credited with a national wealth of 35,700 millions, or about half of her pre-War figure.
