From The Hindu, April 2, 1975: Women harassed from Copter

Bombay, March 31: An alleged attempt to harass two Adivasi women of Nasik district by the occupants of a military helicopter last week figured in the State Assembly to-day when a PWP member, Mr. K.S. Dhondge, raised an adjournment motion on the issue.

He alleged that when the two Adivasi women were returning to their village near Devalli, the occupants of the helicopter chased them and tried to hit them with the chain ladders flung down from the aircraft.

The women had to dive into a nearby pond to evade the chase by the helicopter which, however, continued to hover over the pond even after the women had taken refuge in water. It disappeared from the area only when a batch of people armed with sticks and axes rushed to the scene to rescue the women.

According to Mr. Dhondge, one of the women was seriously injured. When the women attempted to lodge a complaint with the local police, the authorities refused to register the same demanding that the women reveal the number of the helicopter.

The Speaker, Mr. S.K. Wankhede, held over his ruling on the adjournment notice and directed the Minister concerned to make a statement on the issue within a week.

In the Council, where the Chairman disallowed an adjournment motion, Mr. Khanolkar, who raised it, also said police refused to register a complaint about it unless the registration number of the helicopter was given.
