From The Hindu, March 14, 1925: Possibility of building a solid causeway

In a recent issue of “The Ceylon Times” F.J. Waring’s scheme for linking Ceylon with India by rail, which was for the construction of the Adam’s Bridge formation of 10 miles of embankments, including the existing sand banks, and the provision of ten miles of openings at all places where the depth of water exceeded three feet was described.

Mr. J.T. Lewis proposed an embankment of sand, pitched with coral to prevent the sand from being blown away.
